In light of the recent murders and evil deeds perpetrated by what are believed to be Islamic groups, the former governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, has lamented the country’s unfavorable depiction of Islam.
In contrast to these stereotypes, Islam and Muslims, according to Amosun, are vital to the development of modern civilization.
The 11th Triennial Conference and Merit Award of the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria was held on Saturday in Abeokuta. The former governor made the following statement: Religion should promote peaceful coexistence, not prejudice and animosity.
According to Amosun, the theme of this year’s conference, “Islam and Muslims: Roles and Relevance in a Pluralistic World,” is highly appropriate given the current global situation.
Muslims and Islam have a special responsibility to help shape, develop, and advance humanity in this pluralistic world where ideas, cultures, and beliefs vary greatly.
Interactions with other faiths and Muslims are to be characterized by mutual understanding, tolerance, and compassion, as emphasized in Islam’s tenets of continence, faith, prayer, charity, fasting, and pilgrimage.
Religion, which was meant to promote peaceful coexistence, has instead turned into a breeding ground for hatred and antagonism;
now, however, humankind is plagued by hatred and its effects. Despite these crucial functions, Islam and Muslims have been the targets of attacks by groups like Boko Haram, Lakurawa in Nigeria, and ISIS in Syria. These groups include Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan, Boko Haram, and Lakurawa in Nigeria.
Their evil deeds have tarnished the important roles that Muslims play and the significance of Islam over the globe.
Similarly, the recent massacre in Plateau State and the many others that have occurred in the name of land border crises—such as the Ifon and Ilobu land dispute in Osun State—have been completely needless.
No nation should be considered better than any other, and no people should be considered less valuable than any other, if we value the inherent dignity of every individual.
According to him, diversity in tribal and ethnic affiliations should be celebrated for what it is: unique identities, not a justification for oppression.
Sheikh Abdulrahman Ahmed, Nigeria’s National Missioner and Chief Imam of the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, made the following remarks: “In the end, everyone will give an account of how they lived their lives.” He emphasized the importance of Nigerians, particularly those in public position, being open and responsible.
The Baba Adeen of Owu Kingdom, Dr. Ismail Akindele, has also spoken out against religious coercion, stressed that everyone has the right to live in peace regardless of their religious affiliation, and called on all Muslims to follow the teachings of Islam.
