Bandit leader Turji confirms peace talks, criticizes cleric

Notorious bandit Bello Turji has announced that discussions are in progress to put an end to violence and insecurity in Zamfara and other areas of the North-West region. This information was shared on Thursday by security analyst Zagazola Makama through his X account.

As per the report, the aim of these discussions is to restore peace and allow both Fulani herders and Hausa farmers to resume their livelihoods without the fear of being attacked or oppressed.

“What we desire is peace, a peace that will allow Fulani herders and Hausa farmers to live without fear or oppression,” Turji expressed in Hausa.

Nevertheless, the bandit leader launched a scathing attack on Islamic cleric Sheikh Murtala Bello Asada, who had recently claimed that there were no ongoing negotiations.

“You sit in the mosque surrounded by people and on social media claiming there are no talks. If you are courageous, come and lead the security forces to arrest me yourself, as that is what you always advocate,” Turji remarked.
