Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos have apprehended Victor Giwa, a lawyer based in Abuja, whose bench warrant was issued earlier this week by a Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court in Apo.
On Monday, Giwa and Ibitade Bukola were both served with a bench warrant for their arrest by Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie.
Because they skipped their planned arraignment on charges of forgery and impersonation, the court issued the warrant.
Authorities in Zone II have reported that Giwa was apprehended in Lagos on Friday and is presently detained. On Monday, as per the bench warrant, he will likely be taken to Abuja.
Claiming to have been issued by the chambers of Awa U. Kalu, SAN, Giwa and Bukola are accused of conspiring to fake a legal document with the intent to mislead the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, in the charge marked CR/150/25 filed by the Inspector General of Police. The crime allegedly took place on June 28, 2024, as stated by the prosecution.
Prosecutors said that Giwa and Bukola had requested the AGF to postpone an arraignment by forging and signing a letter on the official letterhead of Awa U. Kalu, SAN.
The defense’s medical report failed to indicate that the first defendant would be unable to attend court, according to Justice Onwuegbuzie, who issued the bench warrant. The second defendant failed to produce any document whatsoever.
According to Justice Onwuegbuzie, a bench warrant has been issued against the defendants in accordance with Section 352 of the ACJA in order to force their appearance at the next adjourned date, which is October 8, 2025, due to the aforementioned.
The two are set to appear before Justice Onwuegbuzie to answer to the allegations that have been presented against them, and Bukola is also anticipated to be arrested.
