On Monday, the Adamawa State House of Assembly urged Governor Ahmadu Fintiri to take action against Simon Sashi, the Executive Chairman of Madagali Local Government Council, for reportedly shutting down public schools without consulting the appropriate authorities.
Madagali is the local government area where Governor Fintiri hails from, and just last weekend, he reiterated that the government had not closed any schools, despite the ongoing insecurity characterized by attacks on educational institutions and the kidnapping of students in various regions of the country.
However, Madagali is also one of the local government areas in Adamawa State that is particularly vulnerable to attacks, especially from Boko Haram militants.
During their session on Monday, the Adamawa lawmakers instructed Fintiri to suspend the Madagali chairman for a month while an investigation is conducted by the Assembly’s joint committees on education and local government affairs.
This suspension request was initiated following a motion presented by the Assembly’s Majority Leader, Kate Mamuno.
After discussing the motion, Speaker Bathiya Wesley instructed the Assembly clerk to relay the recommendations to Governor Fintiri.
