The Kano State Government has reiterated that the ban on commercial motorcycle activities in certain areas of the state remains effective, instructing security forces to enhance enforcement efforts.
A statement released on Monday by Abubakar Tijjani Ibrahim, Special Assistant (Media) to the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, reminded the public that the Motorcycling and Related Matters (Regulations) Law of 2013 is still in effect.
The Attorney General, Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, stated in the announcement that the law forbids carrying passengers on motorcycles in various metropolitan local government areas, including Kano Municipal, Gwale, Dala, Nassarawa, Tarauni, Ungogo (Jido), Dawakin Kudu (Tamburawa, Gurjiya and Jido Ward), Fagge, and Kumbotso.
According to the regulation, offenders may face up to six months in prison, a fine of N10,000, and the confiscation of their motorcycle.
The Ministry also pointed out that in local councils where commercial motorcycle operations are allowed, riders are required to register with their Ward Head, the Local Government Works Department, and the Divisional Police Officer for identification and security oversight.
The government has called on riders, passengers, and community leaders to adhere to the directive, emphasizing that security agencies have been assigned to enforce the law to deter crime and uphold public order.
