Drivers have been facing significant challenges on the Ota-Idiroko Road due to ongoing construction that has made a section at Goro, Atan-Ota, impassable.
This affected area is part of an international route that connects towns in the region and allows travel to and from the Benin Republic, leaving drivers stranded over the weekend.
Heavy trucks trying to navigate around the damaged section either got stuck in the mud or overturned, necessitating the assistance of Hiab trucks for their removal. Commuters have blamed the disorder on poor workmanship by the contractor responsible for the project.
One motorist stated, “The gutters built on both sides of the road are too narrow to effectively channel water, leading to backflow that has damaged the roadway.
“Some minor repairs during the ongoing construction could have made the road passable, but the contractor seems unconcerned about the safety and convenience of road users.”
This situation has led to increasing frustration among road users, who are calling on authorities to keep a closer eye on the project and ensure that construction does not entirely disrupt traffic on this vital highway.
