American singer Miley Cyrus has spoken up about her health issues, revealing that her early drug and alcohol use had a role.
The ‘Used To Be Young’ singer opened up about her battle with Reinke’s oedema in an interview with Zane Lowe of Apple Music.
Long-term smokers often get Reinke’s oedema, a benign condition affecting the vocal cords. It happens when fluid collects on the surface of the vocal folds, making them swell and dilate. Nevertheless, Cyrus asserted that her disability is primarily inherited.
The prospect of having her voice taken away during surgery is something that makes her wary of the operation, she said.
This condition, known as Reinke’s oedema, is a result of vocal cord trauma, and I suffer from it. She added that being 21 and continuing to drink, smoke, and party after every show was not helping matters.
However, it is not the cause in my case either. Because of my unusual physique, my voice has always had this characteristic.
“I have this large polyp on my cords, and I’m not willing to sever it ever, because the chance of waking up from a surgery and not sounding like myself is a probability.
