The Kebbi State Hisbah Board has arrested a group of teenagers in Zuru Local Government Area for reportedly wearing ihram clothing and impersonating Hajj ceremonies on the Day of Arafa.
Judge Surajo Usman Kamba, the Board’s Director of Sharia, confirmed the occurrence in a statement issued on Sunday, May 31, 2026.
According to the statement, the Hisbah Board responded in response to concerns that certain young people were claiming to be completing Hajj rituals in the same way that pilgrims are currently doing so in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Board stated that the juveniles were detained and questioned about their acts.
During the interview, officials stressed that Hajj is a religious obligation ordained by Allah that must be completed only at certain sites and times, and that repeating the rites elsewhere does not constitute a legal pilgrimage.
“The youths were educated on the religious significance and requirements of Hajj and were made to understand that such acts are not recognised in Islamic teachings,” the statement stated.
The Board further stated that the adolescents recognised their mistake, showed regret, and promised not to participate in similar behaviour in the future.
The authorities later released the kids after they agreed to behave properly.
The Hisbah Board asked inhabitants, particularly young people, to seek appropriate religious counsel and avoid actions that may mislead Islamic acts of devotion.
