Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, a Zamfara North Senatorial hopeful for the All Progressives Congress (APC), has launched a pre-election petition in Gusau challenging his removal from the party’s primary poll.
The APC, the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, and Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura are the first to third defendants in the complaint before Justice Hassan Dikko, respectively.
Shinkafi is requesting that the senate primary election be declared null and void because he was unlawfully barred from participating.
When the topic came up for discussion on Tuesday, proceedings were halted due to unresolved problems about INEC’s involvement in the case.
The court postponed the hearing until June 25 and ordered that INEC present and all parties exchange papers before the next hearing date.
Bello Galadi, the plaintiff’s counsel, expressed confidence in his client’s case, stressing that the court will guarantee justice was served.
Senator Kaura’s counsel, Jaysey Sharka, stated that the matter is still in the hearing stage.
