On Friday, the Nigeria Police Force announced that all necessary security measures and operational preparations for Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti State have been finalised.
Authorities have stated that the deployment will encompass all 2,545 polling places in the state, along with key infrastructure, main entrance and departure routes, border settlements, and other important sites.
As part of an update on the Force’s readiness, CP Shogule Abayomi, the Commissioner of Police in charge of Election Security, announced the adoption of a multi-layered security architecture to guarantee a credible, peaceful, and error-free voting process.
To ensure the protection of voters, electoral officials, observers, and election materials throughout the exercise, he stated that operational assets and security personnel have been strategically positioned across polling units and other designated areas.
All personnel deployed for election duty have been adequately briefed on their responsibilities and rules of engagement, and they will discharge their duties professionally, impartially, and in accordance with the law, according to Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu. This is an assurance to the public.
The Nigeria Police Force has issued a warning that any action that could compromise the credibility of the voting process would be punished in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act and other applicable laws.
Throughout the election campaign, it emphasised the need of inhabitants remaining law-abiding and peaceful.
The dedicated election emergency line, 080062335577, will be operational throughout the election period to enable quick response and intervention, so the Force urged the public to report any security concerns through it as soon as possible.
In addition, it warned eligible voters not to be intimidated or scared into not exercising their constitutional rights, but to cast their ballots in a peaceful manner.
