The Lagos State Government has succeeded in having thirteen people convicted and sentenced to three months in prison for charges related to the careless disposal of garbage. The Magistrate Court in Bolade, Oshodi handed down the sentences.
Tokunbo Wahab, the commissioner for the ministry of environment and water resources, announced the news on Tuesday using his official X Twitter.
As stated in the statement, the defendants were brought before the court on allegations related to environmental sanitation law violations resulting from unlawful waste disposal methods.
The thirteen accused individuals all entered guilty pleas.
The court accepted their guilty pleas and handed down three-month prison sentences to each of them.
Ali Muhammed, Paul Yaya, Abduljamiu Wasiu, Habeeb Muhammed, Kolawole Elijah, Anum Musa, Adeniyi Jamiu, Taiwo Olaniyi, Abah Musa, and Damilare Adebowale are among the convicted individuals.
The administration has stated that the convictions demonstrate its dedication to maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy Lagos State through the ongoing implementation of environmental legislation.
It went on to say that this is all a part of a state-wide crackdown on careless trash disposal.
