The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has linked illegal mining in Nigeria to organised crime, terrorism, and insecurity throughout West Africa.
This was revealed in a statement issued on Monday when Tullio Santini, Chief of the Africa Section of the Terrorism Prevention Branch, TPB at UNODC, led a delegation to meet with NSCDC Mining Marshals.
According to Santini, the NSCDC Mining Marshals’ enforcement branch is crucial in tackling illegal mining in the country.
The main topic of discussion was the UNODC Crime-Terrorism Nexus Initiative, which was directed by Mr Robert Haslinger, a law enforcement expert from the Swedish Police.
