In a huge political upset that changed Osun State’s electoral dynamics, incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke won re-election on Saturday under the banner of the Accord Party, defeating the powerful machinery of the ruling All Progressives Congress, or APC.
Adeleke, running under the banner of the Accord Party, a third-party platform, received 511,067 votes (50.8%), defeating the APC’s Bola Oyebamiji, who received 444,815 votes (44.2 percent).
Adeleke won in Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Ila, Oriade, Ifelodun, Orolu, Ayedaade, Odo Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo, Osogbo and Ayedire Local Government Areas, while Oyebamiji won in Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun, Obokun, Atakunmosa West, Irewole, Atakunmosa East, Isokan, Ola Oluwa, Ife South and Olorunda Local Government Areas.
“That Ademola Nurudeen-Jackson Adeleke, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the August 15 governorship election and returned elected,” Ogunwole said.
INEC figures also show that there were 2,339,233 registered voters, with 1,005,800 ballots cast, representing 43%. A total of 20,721 ballots were rejected, accounting for approximately 2.06 percent of the total votes cast.
