In Sokoto, an explosive device detonated by terrorists in Lakurawa has killed six males and injured three women

A suspected IED in Sokoto and Kebbi states has killed six males and injured three women. The perpetrators are thought to be members of the recently created Lakurawa terrorist group.

Some were worried about the group’s rising profile after the event in Gwabro village, Tangaza Local Government Area, Sokoto State. The terrible occurrence took place on Sunday afternoon during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, according to a source.

He went on to say that it is customary for individuals, especially young ones, to pay respects to relatives by travelling from village to village. The catastrophic explosion occurred during one of these visits.

Their misfortune was their fault, he said. The unsuspecting victims came found the device while strolling from Gwabro to the neighbouring Zurmuku settlement. They may have touched it, not realising what it was, and the explosion would have ensued.

According to ASP Ahmed Rufai, a spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, six men were killed and three women were seriously injured in the blast.

The injured were rushed to Tangaza General Hospital, where they are still undergoing treatment, according to the source.

The Tangaza Local Government chairman could not be reached prior to the publication of this story; however, Alhaji Garzali Raka, the chairman’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, verified that the victims of the explosion have been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic traditions.
