No one was acknowledged for championing the “Kudirat Radio” during the June 12 conflict, according to Kayode Fayemi, a former governor of Ekiti State.
President Bola Tinubu acknowledged the people behind the Kudirat FM initiative, which Fayemi oversaw, and he made it clear that he was not pleased with it.
In observance of Democracy Day, Tinubu, according to Naijatrial, honoured scores of Nigerians on Thursday. While delivering his State of the Nation address to the National Assembly, the president made the news.
The late Kudirat Abiola was posthumously named Commander of the Federal Republic, while Nobel laureate Professor Wole Soyinka was bestowed the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, among other prominent honourees, according to Naijatrial.
However, while responding to questions on Thursday’s Politics Today program on Channels TV, the ex-governor said that the president failed to acknowledge several individuals who put their lives on the line.
“Democracy is a journey,” he stated. Yeah, it’s paid off in part. It hasn’t paid out in full yet. Not that I was overjoyed. To be clear, I was the project manager, but the President failed to acknowledge any of the individuals who were instrumental in making that project a success.
There was a fierce voice on that radio, including the late mr. Yinka Johnson, who was our technical director and who organised the effort, Bola Olayemi, George Noah, Shola Adeyeye, the senator, and the late Daniel Johnson. Many of the men who were truly engaged, like Doctor Tajudine and Abdulrahim.
Being in charge of radio Kudirat meant that I was essentially its public face. However, many others spoke up, and many more put their lives on the line. We, however, were not the ones who went unmentioned earlier.
Nevertheless, the president’s actions today should not be underestimated. He acted morally. He continued President Buhari’s work and expanded upon it.
I hope that one day this history will be told accurately, that all those who were involved, sacrificed, and unsung heroes would be adequately acknowledged, and that a National Monument or Museum will be built in Abuja.
