Some roads and bridges in Ondo State have been swept away due to the heavy rains that have fallen over the past few days. Because of the scenario, locals are unable to get to their farms, markets, or places of employment.
The communities of Uso in the Owo Local Council Area, Akoko South West, Ilaje, Ese Odo, and Okitipupa were all devastated by the disastrous floods produced by the incessant rain that has been dropping for the past week.
Because of the enormous scale of the devastation produced by the deluge, inhabitants of the impacted towns have termed the flood as a catastrophe that has devastated several homes, livelihoods, and properties valued in the millions of naira.
Residents who lost everything in the flood said that the clogged drainage systems made the disaster much worse, and they pleaded with the state government and other relevant organisations to help them recover financially and with relief supplies so they can rebuild their homes and businesses.
Igbokoda community leader Zebulon Emaye, who is also the chairperson of the Ilaje Local Council, said that the town’s inadequate drainage and poorly planned streets were to blame for the biggest calamity the town has ever seen.
A resident of Okitipupa named Jonathan Akintunde also stressed the critical significance of providing for the homeless.
“We have witnessed the amount of rainfall in the last few days that is staggering,” Akintunde remarked. Those whose homes were inundated and who lost everything in the flood are now experiencing back-to-back downpours.
The people of this state are pleading with the state administration to save them. As the rain shows no signs of abating anytime soon, the people must be attended to without delay.
