Peter Obi, a former presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP), has urged Christians in Nigeria to pray throughout the Easter holiday for leaders who are empathetic and willing to feel their suffering.
Compassionate leaders, according to Obi, consider the individuals affected by their decisions and inactions at all times. A statement signed by POMR spokesman Ibrahim Umar on Saturday contained his call.
“Our Redeemer is living and active,” Obi said, guaranteeing that a New Nigeria is conceivable and urging his fellow Nigerians and Obidients around the world to remain hopeful no matter what challenges they face.
For Christians, “Easter” is a time to reflect on “the enormous sacrifice Jesus Christ made for mankind.” Hence, during Easter, when we beheld in Jesus a magnificent, compassionate leader, it is fitting to pray for leaders for our nation who are gentle-hearted and loving.
What we see in Nigeria now, with all the difficulties and insecurity plaguing the country, is a clear case of leaders who are apathetic and blasé about their responsibilities.
“To put God’s natural and human capital gifts to use for the benefit of the populace, Nigeria deserves better leadership than they are getting.”
