Joined by notable sons and daughters of the state, Imo Akpan, who represents Akwa Ibom State at the federal Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), has recounted the incredible heights the state has scaled 38 years after its creation.
Former military president General Ibrahim Babagida (Rtd) founded Akwa Ibom and Kastina states on September 23, 1987, from the previous Cross River State.
On Wednesday, in a message of goodwill commemorating the state’s anniversary, Akpan stated that Akwa Ibom has surpassed all expectations in every area, and he credited the progress and prosperity to the perseverance of the people and the sacrifices made by their ancestors.
It was thirty-eight years ago, he claims, that the idea of a new state was planted. We are here today to testify to the fidelity of God and the bravery of our ancestors.
Thus, it is not an overstatement to claim that Akwa Ibom state has attained the wisdom of an elderly person at the age of 38. You can see the progress, you can feel the momentum, and you can feel the unwavering spirit of our people.
The governor, pastor Umo Eno, has received high praise from the federal commissioner, who sees this as a reflection of the federal government’s unwavering support for the state.
In his impassioned plea, he emphasised the importance of inhabitants working together in the present and future to create a state of which they can be proud.
