The Igbo Elders Forum has asked that Governor Alex Otti coordinate with the other governors of the South East to have Nnamdi Kanu, the founder of IPOB, released.
The group that showed up at the Abia State Government House in Umuahia on Wednesday morning said that Nnamdi Kanu’s worsening health could not be disregarded.
Those involved, including group spokesperson Emeka Ezebuiro, who spoke to the media outside of Abia Government House in Umuahia, claimed to have gone on a nonviolent mission to convey their demands to Governor Alex Otti.
While talks are underway with armed bandits in the North, the group voiced its dismay that Nnamdi Kanu has not been released or given access to proper medical treatment.
We wanted to make our frustration and emotions known, thus we came. They are refusing to let our sick son get the medical treatment he needs while he is still in jail.
“Why are they continuing to hold him while negotiating with armed bandits and robbers?” Smirk spreading across Ezebuiro’s face.
According to the spokesperson, the Igbo Elders Forum will communicate with other South East governors, emphasising the need for a unified front among the governors to secure Kanu’s freedom.
Furthermore, the Igbo Think Tank North America accused the Igbo governors and political leaders of committing a silent genocide against the Igbo youths in a demand letter it sent to them.
The organization’s president, Dunkwu Agbambu, made the call for Igbo elders to defend Igbo territory and its youths from assassination, invasion, and devastation.
