President Bola Tinubu has claimed that Nigeria’s fuel prices are lower than those in Kenya and other African countries.
He said this in his statement on Thursday, when he was in Yenagoa for project commissioning.
He recognised the economic issues that Nigerians face, particularly the growing cost of fuel.
He said he understood Nigerians’ concerns about the current economic condition, but emphasised that the country is still doing better than some other countries on the continent.
“Yes, I hear you from the angles of the economy; the fuel prices are biting hard,” Tinubu replied. “But look around; let’s thank God together that we are better off than those in Kenya and other African countries.”
the fuel price in Kenya as of April 2026 was $1.37 per litre, which is equivalent to roughly N1,862.
Since the Iran-US-Israel conflict began in March, petrol prices have risen to between N1,290 and N1,350 per litre, while crude oil prices range between $95 and $100 per barrel.
In the previous six weeks, gasoline marketers, depot owners, and Dangote Refinery have raised their domestic fuel pump rates to mirror global crude oil price volatility.
