Faizu Alfindiki, a former chairman of Kano Municipal Council, has stated that former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso lacks the political clout to influence presidential election outcomes in Kano State.
Alfindiki spoke on Tuesday in Kano to APC social media influencers, dismissing suggestions that Kwankwaso may win a big number of votes in the 2027 elections.
According to him, political speculations about a potential partnership between Kwankwaso and Peter Obi should not instill panic in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Kwankwaso cannot provide Kano votes in the sense that is commonly assumed. The vote record in our state has always demonstrated that individuals, not political structures, determine presidential outcomes,” he remarked.
Alfindiki contended that former President Muhammadu Buhari repeatedly won Kano elections based on personal popularity, even when Kwankwaso and his associates were in power.
“In 2003, Buhari had about 1.6 million votes in Kano, yet Kwankwaso, who was governor at the time, could not deliver the state to Obasanjo,” he said.
He stated a similar tendency emerged in successive elections.
He pointed out that Buhari continued to receive big votes in Kano regardless of who controlled the state government.
“Even in 2011, Buhari ruled Kano despite the existence of a sitting governor. That demonstrates Kwankwaso’s limited influence,” he continued.
The APC chieftain also cited the 2019 elections, claiming Buhari received over 1.4 million votes in Kano while Kwankwaso-backed candidates lost critical legislative seats.
Alfindiki also highlighted the 2023 presidential election, claiming Kwankwaso’s record in Kano did not support his claims to political domination.
“As a presidential candidate, he received less than one million votes in his home state. “That clearly shows that his political reach is limited,” he stated.
He accused the former governor of overstating his prior impact, particularly allegations that he handed millions of votes to Buhari in 2015.
“Nobody is denying that Kwankwaso is relevant in Kano politics, but history does not support the idea that he controls presidential voting in the state,” Alfindiki said.
He expressed confidence that the APC will stay strong in Kano and throughout the North, saying that the party was not threatened by what he termed as media-driven partnerships.
“Our structure is intact, and we are not worried about any political combination ahead of 2027,” he stated.
