On May 31, 2026, suspected Fulani bandits attacked the Gwon-Ajang village in Foron District, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State, killing at least eight persons and injuring more than fifteen.
The armed bandits, numbering in the hundreds, stormed the village at around 10 o’clock at night and opened fire intermittently, sending the residents fleeing for cover, according to Joseph Azi, a local who confirmed the attack in a phone conversation Monday morning.

There were almost a hundred of them, and they were well-armed. When the bandits stormed the settlement, the residents were already fast asleep.
As soon as they stepped foot in the village, they began firing shots while continuously yelling “Allahu’Akbar” in Fulani.
“Despite the people’s panicked calls to security services, they continued operating for over two hours, but no one came to their assistance. According to Azi, eight individuals had died and more than fifteen others were injured by the time the terrorists had fled.
Rwang Tengwong, national publicity secretary of the Berom Youths Moulder-Association (BYM), verified the attack as well. However, he stated that he needed more information before he could make a comment, promising to do so once he had all the facts.
Calls and messages to the phones of state police spokesman SP Alfred Alabo and Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) Media Information Officer Captain Polycarp Oteh went unanswered, rendering efforts to gather their reactions fruitless.
