Alexander Ombugu, the factional chairman of the Labour Party

(LP) in Nasarawa State, has expressed alarm about purported threats against his life, urging security services to intervene immediately and ensure his safety.

Ombugu made the claim while speaking to journalists in Lafia, Nasarawa State’s capital, on Saturday.

The LP chieftain suggested that the reported threats may be related to his stance on certain internal party issues and his role in the state’s just ended party primary elections.

Although Ombugu declined to publicly identify individuals purportedly behind the threats, he claimed that he has information that should be provided to security personnel to avoid jeopardising ongoing or future investigations.

According to him, law enforcement officials must respond immediately to prevent further injury and identify those guilty.

He asked security forces to provide him with necessary protection and conduct a comprehensive investigation into the alleged intimidation.

“Since being active in politics, I have followed the law. “In all my activities, I have remained committed to the Labour Party’s constitution and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he stated.

Ombugu insisted that he had never committed any conduct that would justify antagonism or threats against his person, and that his actions within the party had always been guided by values of transparency and due process.

He further urged appropriate authorities to take proactive measures to protect his life and bring those behind the alleged threats to justice.

“The truth is that I have never hurt anyone. I therefore call to security agencies to provide the necessary protection and conduct a proper investigation so that my safety can be ensured,” he added.

The development comes amid increased political activity and internal party realignments ahead of the Nasarawa State general elections in 2027.
