A cultist was apprehended and a handgun and ammo made in the area were seized by Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) troops in Benue State’s Katsina-Ala Local Government Area.
Zagazola Makama, a security analyst, posted this on Tuesday on X.
Makama reports that the arrest occurred during a security operation carried out by troops of Sector 1 OPWS in the area on June 22 at approximately 7:10 p.m.
The suspect was apprehended, according to security sources, because of information that connected him to cult-related activities that have exacerbated unrest in the local government region.
In his report, Makama detailed the items found on him, including a locally made pistol, two rounds of ammunition, and a bag with what appeared to be personal possessions.
According to a source, the suspect is currently in custody and authorities are working to establish his level of involvement and find any potential accomplices.
“Investigation is underway to determine the suspect’s involvement and identify others linked to his actions,” the source stated.
The arrest, according to security officials, is a component of their continuing campaign to reduce criminal activity and cultism in Benue State and the surrounding regions.
They went on to say that in order to keep the peace and make their area safer, Operation Whirl Stroke has kept up the stepped-up patrols and intelligence-led activities.
