As of Wednesday afternoon, allegations of nationwide underfunding of constituent projects had the House of Representatives in a state of disarray and fervent dispute.
According to Alex Mascot, a lawmaker from Abia State’s Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency, President Bola Tinubu should be called before the House to explain why his constituents’ projects have not received any cash whatsoever.
“Oh, please, come and tell us why Nigerians are losing their lives while we spend trillions of naira on road construction.”
A legislator offered an amendment to the motion, which was seconded, suggesting that the House should be adjourned for a week until the issue is thoroughly handled.
Disagreements were sparked by the plan. Yusuf Gagdi was vehemently against the proposal, claiming that it was pointless to call a meeting of the president because the heads of the appropriate agencies are already responsible for allocating resources and carrying out such initiatives.
Also, he thought it was a bad idea to close the House for a week and opposed the plan.
There was chaos as legislators yelled and argued over Gagdi’s counter-amendment, which met with strong opposition.
Tajudeen Abbas, the speaker of the house, ordered a vote so that members could express their position clearly in an effort to get things back under control.
