In anticipation of the 2025 Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the Kano State Police Command has reiterated the prohibition of any and all Durbar activities. This was stated publicly by the Command and other sister security agencies in the state on June 3, 2025.
The police in Kano State sent their best wishes to all Muslims and law-abiding citizens for a peaceful Sallah celebration, urging everyone to keep the peace both during and after the festivities. Additionally, it emphasised that sufficient measures to prevent public disorder are already in place to ensure the safety of the people during these festivities.
The command’s PPRO SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa further explained in a statement that the ban on Durbar activities cannot be lifted, as it was initially imposed during the 2025 Eid-el-Fitr celebrations in response to credible intelligence reports of planned restrictions. Authorities discovered a scheme involving some individuals and their backers to disrupt the state’s peace and security during the Durbar.
The statement highlighted that the prohibition on Durbar in the state remains in effect and would be strictly implemented during the 2025 Eid-el-Kabir celebration. The dangers that have been addressed remain powerful.
The document went on to detail the specific safety protocols that everyone should follow during the festivities, including: no kilisa (horseback riding), no racing, no careless or dangerous driving, no illegal possession or careless display of weapons, and no carrying of anything that could cause suspicion.
Warn your children and wards not to be used by rebels, parents and guardians were told. The Command issued a strong warning to the public against any actions that could lead to a disturbance in public order and stressed that the police and other security agencies are prepared to implement the law rigorously.
At the end of the statement, it was asked that people take some time over the holiday season to pray for the state, the nation, and the memory of the Kano athletes who tragically died on the way back from the National Sports Festival.
This follows Muhammad Sanusi II’s (the 16th Emir of Kano) brief instruction to his district heads to commence Eid-el-Kabir (Babbar Sallah) durbar preparations only a few hours earlier.
