Nigerian government proclaims Tuesday public holiday for Eid al-Mawlid

The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a national holiday to commemorate this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, which celebrates the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

This was revealed by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government, in a statement released on Friday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani.

The minister congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and around the world on the anniversary, encouraging Nigerians to focus on the qualities of compassion, humility, and service connected with Prophet Muhammad’s life.
