Putin did not issue an order to prolong the Easter truce in the midst of Russia’s continuing conflict with Ukraine. This was revealed by Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Kremlin. As Peskov said, “Putin did not give an order to extend the Easter ceasefire,” according to TASS’s weekend report.
A so-called “Easter ceasefire” between 6 pm Moscow time on April 19 and midnight Moscow time on April 21 was announced by Putin on Thursday.
In the midst of Easter festivities, the Russian leader asserted that he had suspended all military operations. As a result, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine consented to the truce. But Zelenskyy cautioned that if Russia breached it, Ukraine would retaliate proportionately.
In addition, he recommended a complete pause to hostilities for 30 days and encouraged Putin to prolong the truce beyond 20 April on multiple occasions.
