Franca Wilson, a 41-year-old Nigerian woman, has been sentenced to six months of imprisonment in Ghana for her attempt to obtain a Ghanaian passport by using falsified nationality documents.
The Ghana Immigration Service verified the conviction in a report that was published by the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation on Thursday.
Wilson, a welder, entered a plea of guilty before the Adabraka District Court in Accra on May 12, 2026, according to an earlier report by Citi Newsroom.
The court subsequently sentenced her to six months of imprisonment with hard labour on three distinct counts, with all sentences to be served concurrently.
On April 24, 2026, immigration officials apprehended Wilson at the Accra Passport Application Centre after identifying discrepancies in the nationality documents she submitted during the screening process, according to reports.
She was subsequently transferred to the National Enforcement Department at the Ghana Immigration Service’s headquarters for further investigation, according to the agency.
Reportedly, Wilson was born to Nigerian parents and is a Nigerian citizen from Rivers State, as per the investigations.
Nevertheless, authorities claimed that she submitted a fraudulent birth certificate, which claimed she was born in Somanya, a town in the Eastern Region of Ghana, to a Ghanaian mother.
The immigration agency also stated that Wilson neglected to furnish verifiable information regarding the putative Ghanaian parent she claimed in the documents submitted for the passport application during the interrogation.
