The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State has accused the Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, of targeting former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami in an attempt to dissuade him from seeking governorship in the state.
The claim was made in a statement released on Sunday, which was signed by the party’s Kebbi State Chairman, Sufiyanu Bala, and Alhaji Shehu Aliyu Sambawa.
The ADC said that the federal government is using judicial tactics to intimidate opposition figures on both the federal and state levels.
The party claimed that these purported measures are intended to instill fear in opposition lawmakers, discouraging them from pursuing their political dreams ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“By 12 p.m. in 2027, their party is over. That is why they are threatening powerful opposition individuals who look to be set to succeed them, especially Malami, who is being hounded by the judiciary,” the statement stated.
Furthermore, the party alleged that the Kebbi State Government is attempting to undermine Malami’s governorship ambition through different intimidation measures, while asserting that nothing will prevent his candidature in the 2027 elections.
The ADC further claimed that the confiscation of Malami’s assets is part of a joint strategy by the Federal Government and the Kebbi State Government to frighten the former minister.
Despite what it termed as judicial and political persecution, the party voiced determination and optimism that the judiciary will overturn the latest verdict against Malami.
