Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has given his approval to lift the curfew in the towns of Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun.
Following community tensions in the first quarter of the year, the curfew was first imposed in the three settlements.
In view of the nearly complete restoration of calm to the impacted regions, the governor has decided to loosen the curfew, as stated by Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment.
Additionally, Governor Adeleke stated that he loosened the curfew in light of the forthcoming Eid El Kabir celebration.
According to Alimi’s announcement, starting on Sunday, May 25, 2025, the new curfew hours will be from 9:00 pm to 5:00 am every day.
In the past, community confrontations between the towns necessitated the enforcement of a curfew that ran from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am.
A reminder that the curfew will be in effect until full calm is assured, Governor Adeleke emphasised the need of citizens maintaining restraint and working together.
Additionally, he warned the traditional leaders of the three towns to keep their citizens from causing trouble in public.
The declaration warned that traditional rulers would face legal consequences if their subjects were found to pose a hindrance to establishing absolute peace.
Peace and harmony are taking root, and I applaud all parties involved, including the three municipalities. “Please, I beg you, continue this,” Adeleke chimed in.
Additionally, the Governor has ordered that the communities be under constant observation by a combined security force consisting of the Army, Police, DSS, and Civil Defence.
“To ensure that peace is sustained in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun, security agencies must continue 24-hour monitoring,” the statement said.
