Mark Lawrenson, a legendary player for Liverpool, has asked Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, to give Declan Rice the captain’s armband instead of Martin Ødegaard.
Lawrenson claims that if Arteta relieved Ødegaard of his captaincy, Ødegaard would be free to focus more on his own play for the team. According to Lawrenson, who spoke to Paddy Power (via Mirror), Ødegaard’s season was graded a “six out of ten.”
In his post-match analysis of Arsenal’s 1-0 loss to PSG in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals, Lawrenson argued that Martin Odegaard should no longer be wearing the captain’s armband and instead return his attention to the team’s play. His performance this season has been disappointing, but we all know he’s a talented player.
Since Declan Rice was already captain at West Ham, you would think that removing the armband from his shoulders would have no effect on his play.
“Rice should get it so Odegaard can concentrate on getting better at what he does. A few years ago, Ødegaard transferred to Arsenal from Real Madrid.
