Four of the six states in Nigeria’s North-East geopolitical zone are still without power, four days beyond the scheduled restoration date, supposedly because YEDC failed to deliver on its pledge.
After YEDC broke yet another commitment to restore power, the expectations of people in Adamawa, Yobe, Borno, and Taraba states were crushed again.
No later than 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2025, the corporation had already promised to restore electricity to the impacted regions. But the situation hasn’t altered; the region-wide outage is still going strong as of this writing.
Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) upgrades the Jos-Gombe 330kV and Jos-Bauchi-Gombe 132kV transmission lines, which YEDC highlighted in its last official communication as the reason for the outage.
Rerouting an existing 132kV line and installing new towers at the Bauchi 330kV station are allegedly part of the project.
After yet another deadline was missed, citizens vented their frustration and disappointment over the ongoing outage, claiming it has crippled both daily life and economic activities.
Some locals who spoke with Naijatrial bemoaned the blackout’s devastating effect on companies, saying that prices for goods and services had risen dramatically.
Many have cast doubt on YEDC’s ability to handle the situation, while others have called on the federal government to step in immediately.
Speaking with Naijatrial, some Taraba locals demanded a change in the distribution business to one with more experience, arguing that the area needs consistent power to fuel its economy and development.
