Dave Umahi, minister of works, has issued a warning to contractors working on federal roads, stating that they will face consequences from the EFCC and the ICPC if they do not complete their work by the agreed upon time.
This caution was issued by Umahi on Saturday during his inspection of the Abuja-Lokoja highway and the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano road project.
Despite receiving some mobilisation monies, contractors working on portions of the Abuja-Lokoja highway have made less than 20% progress on their projects. The Minister has promised to invite anti-graft agencies to investigate this matter.
The president has been informed that sections 1 and 3 and 2 of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano route will take 14 months to complete, he added. A sum of N252 billion was allotted for sections 1 and 3, which together cover 118 kilometres.
The Minister emphasised that the total length of the route from Abuja to Lokoja was around 460 kilometres, with an additional 230 km added on.
If significant work is not finished by November, the work would be terminated, according to Umahi’s threat to the contractor managing the project.
