Dr. David Olofu, a senatorial candidate from Benue South running on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain independent and neutral ahead of the 2027 general election.
The front-running senatorial candidate delivered the charge on Thursday when he officially picked up his candidacy and expression of interest forms at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
Olofu stated that credible elections are still vital to expanding democracy and restoring public trust in the political process.
“We’ve chosen the form. In fact, we were the first to be granted the form, and I believe we will be the first to win the election. He stated that INEC should remain independent and neutral in the conduct of elections.
The exercise drew tremendous support from party members, youth and women’s groups, cultural dancers, and supporters from all parties, resulting in a carnival-like atmosphere at the venue.
The massive convoy of supporters caused traffic gridlock in sections of Abuja as they marched in solidarity, screaming songs and holding placards in support of the aspirant.
Notable party leaders in attendance included Rt. Hon. Samson Okwu, Chairman of the Benue State ADC; Prof. David Salifu, Secretary of the Benue State Leadership Team; Mrs. Abeje Egwa, ADC Deputy Chairman, Zone C; and other stakeholders and local government party chairmen from Benue South.
