A group of ex-CPC leaders visited former Justice Minister and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, on Monday to show solidarity with him in light of the increasing security threats in Kebbi State.
A bold attack on a police camp in Makuku village, Sakaba Local Government Area, by over 300 armed bandits occurred last Thursday, just before the visit. Accused of being livestock rustlers, the assailants allegedly stole eight AK-47 weapons from the cops and then burned a patrol car during a heated exchange of gunfire.
According to security expert Zagazola Makama, who broke the news in an X post, the thieves were allegedly transporting cattle that had been stolen from Niger State to Zamfara. Search and rescue operations have commenced with the deployment of troops from Operation FANSAR YANMA and other security forces.
Former Niger State CPC chairman Alhaji Umar Shuaibu led the delegation. The escalating instability in Kebbi, according to Alhaji Ibrahim Waziri of Adamawa, Alhaji Hamidu Haruna of Nasarawa, and George Ikyumbur of Benue, who joined him, is extremely worrisome and demands immediate national action.
Malami expressed his gratitude to the group for their demonstration of support, noting that it demonstrated a common interest in the welfare of the state and the nation overall.
“We are at a pivotal juncture,” stated Malami. Our rural communities’ safety and trust are at stake when an assault on a police site jeopardises security personnel. We must stand together, regardless of our political affiliation, to fight this threat directly.
A response to security threats must be concerted and united, he said, because progress and peace cannot flourish in an atmosphere of fear and violence.
Similar thoughts were expressed by the delegation, who urged for more cooperation between federal and state agencies to combat the increasing dangers presented by armed groups in the North West area.
