Moses Iorhen Shirsha, a former Benue Local Government chairman, and his wife, Mercy Mngusonun Shirsha, were laid to rest in a joint burial ceremony at Mbator, Mbatsen, Konshisha Local Government Area, Benue State.
The burial, which was marked by tears and tributes, brought mourners from across the state, as family members, friends, and acquaintances gathered to honour the slain pair.
Shirsha, a former Chairman of Konshisha LGA, was also the first President of the Benue State University Students’ Union.
Mercy, his wife, worked as a Senior Special Assistant to the Benue State Governor during her lifetime.
According to sources, the former chairman died barely days after losing his wife, exacerbating the tragedy’s impact.
Speakers during the burial described the occurrence as very traumatic, emphasising that the couple, who had shared their life together, died side by side.
Prayers were offered for their souls’ repose, and condolences were sent to the Shirsha Adeega family in light of their double tragedy.
