According to Bappayo Samanja Maudo, the head of the Gombe State Urban Planning and Development Authority (GOSUPDA), the government is determined to put an end to all forms of sexually explicit entertainment, including brothels and gala houses.
According to Maudo, the finding of an 11-year-old child at a lodge—an act he deemed “immoral and unacceptable”—led to the government’s current crackdown.
He emphasised the necessity to safeguard children and maintain public morals by threatening the immediate demolition of any facility found to be in violation of the ban. We will clean up the city. It’s not acceptable to have minors in these establishments,” Maudo proclaimed.
Concerned about security and moral deterioration, the Gombe State government has previously banned the operation of gala houses and brothels.
The Evergreen Hotel, Moon Shine, Fina Hotel, Runko Hotel, and Zuma Royal Hotel are among the numerous establishments that have been destroyed since the crackdown began.
Noting that development initiatives must accompany moral and social order, Maudo lauded Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his dedication to revitalising metropolitan areas through massive infrastructural projects.
