Reportedly, while travelling to participate in the recently ended Nasarawa North Senatorial District bye-election, Senator Philip Aruwa Gyunka, a senior chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, avoided an attack by suspected political thugs.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Ango Ngharni, a media adviser to Governor Abdullahi Sule, made the accusation.
On Saturday, June 20, he claims, the incident happened while the former senator was making his way to Gbuje, his hometown, to participate in the by-election.
The assailants, according to Nggarmi, swarmed Gyunka’s convoy and tried to attack him with axes and machetes.
The APC stalwart allegedly had his vehicle damaged during the attack, but according to the governor’s assistant, he escaped unscathed.
In order to find out who was responsible and hold them accountable, Ngharni denounced the occurrence and demanded an exhaustive inquiry.
Nobody knows who the attackers are or why they would have carried out the purported attack; security services have not yet released a statement on the matter.
