Singer Skales of Nigeria has spoken out about his ordeal of being compelled to play his popular song “Shake Body” while incarcerated.
In an interview that went viral and was posted by Zikoko media, Skales detailed how he was incarcerated against his will following a dispute between his manager and a Nigerian billionaire led to his imprisonment.
The musician was forced to perform his singles “Shake Body” and “Emergency” in exchange for better sleeping accommodations, according to his account shared with other detainees.
The convicts offered to execute the billionaire, but Skales turned them off. He was talking about his hidden past in the music industry at the time.
My boss and I were both thrown in jail once for no apparent reason. We had a disagreement with a billionaire who, for reasons of power alone, had my manager detained and ordered me to return home. I then asked how you could possibly detain my manager while I went home.
I tagged along with them all the way to the PD. They claimed I had to spend the night in jail while I penned a report for my boss.
Because someone recognized me and stated I looked like Skales the moment I stepped foot in the cell, I ended up sleeping and performing while there. I introduced myself as Skales. How come, he wanted to know. In the event that I had caused someone’s death.
After I told him what had happened, he claimed it was common practice among millionaires. There was an offer for him to assist me in killing him. Nevertheless, I politely declined and advised him to disregard the matter.
“If I don’t go meet the boss, the boys below will take care of me,” he warned me, explaining that they had one. I was therefore Skales when he informed their employer. My manager specifically requested that I identify the tune I intended to sing. He brought up “Shake Body” and “Emergency,” and he even sang a few lines from the latter.
“He promised that if I slept on the mat, I would perform for them. The fact that they all slept on the floor, he remarked, will earn me a special spot when I perform. I gave a fearless performance, singing the songs and all.
“He actually felt bad for me and said this boy does not deserve to be here. You will not be able to eat while you are in prison unless your loved ones pay the police to purchase food for you. I thanked them and bought them a lot of food before I left.
