Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, former Governor of Kano State, has stated that he will remain in politics for the rest of his life because politics and religion are inextricably linked in his opinion.
Shekarau made the statement during a news conference at his Mundubawa home in Kano on Wednesday to commemorate his 70th birthday.
“Politics is my religion, and religion is my politics. I intend to stay in politics for the rest of my life and will not retire,” stated the former Minister of Education.
He urged Nigerians to participate actively in politics in order to generate competent and trustworthy leaders who will serve the people honestly and fairly.
He believes that every responsible citizen has a religious obligation to participate in the political process. “It is the responsibility of every citizen to contribute and participate in the political process in order to ensure the emergence of credible leadership.” Since politics is the only way we can have such leaders, it has become a holy imperative to participate,” he said.
Reflecting on his life, Shekarau praised Allah for allowing him to live to 70 years old, expressing thankfulness for good health and the chance to serve humanity in a variety of roles.
