The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, has urged Nigerian youths to take a firm stance against corruption, emphasizing their role as the nation’s key advocates for integrity and sustainable development. This appeal was made on Tuesday during the 2025 International Anti-Corruption Day celebration in Abuja.
Addressing the theme “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity,” Dr Aliyu remarked that young Nigerians are essential in creating a society free from corruption. He pointed out that their enthusiasm, creativity, and bravery lay a solid groundwork for lasting integrity systems.
He emphasized that providing young individuals with the appropriate values, resources, and opportunities will empower them to tackle corruption at its core. He encouraged them to be courageous and united, highlighting that while corruption undermines national aspirations, integrity fortifies them.
The ICPC chairman showcased the Commission’s numerous initiatives aimed at youth engagement, such as anti-corruption seminars at National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, camps across the country, NYSC–ICPC community development projects, and the formation of anti-corruption clubs in educational institutions. He also mentioned that the Commission has ramped up efforts to enhance transparency at the local level through the Joint National Local Government Accountability Framework Workshops and the Accountability and Corruption Prevention Programme for Local Governments, ACPP-LG.
In his keynote speech, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, referred to the event as a crucial opportunity to raise awareness about the perils of corruption and to strengthen the collective commitment to fight it.
He noted that empowering the youth is a significant focus of the current administration, describing young Nigerians as influential agents of change and guardians of the nation’s democratic future. He encouraged them to embrace their role.
