Ex-Man Utd defender Phil Jones has pleaded with manager Ruben Amorim to bring custodian Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa to Manchester United. According to Jones, the Argentine international has a wealth of experience and is a fantastic custodian.
“He is likeable. In my opinion, he is an excellent custodian. When asked about David De Gea, who Manchester United fired, Jones told OLBG, “He won us so many games” (via Metro).
If Emi Martinez were to join, I would consider him a first-rate acquisition. No, that’s a given; the question is whether you value experience more than a younger, more malleable workforce.
“If they decide to continue with Andre Onana, it will be a tough call, but signing Martinez would be a solid move.”
Speculation has circulated that Martinez, a former custodian for Arsenal, may leave Aston Villa this summer. Several clubs, including some in the Saudi Pro League, have shown interest in the 32-year-old.
