The importance of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in obtaining admission to universities has been questioned by Mary Njoku, an actress from Nigeria.
She pondered the question of why the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) isn’t sufficient for admission to universities.
Considering that the SSCE verifies that candidates have finished secondary school, the actress claimed that she fails to comprehend the necessity of JAMB and the post-UTME system.
Why is the JAMB exam required to get into university?” she asked on his Instagram account. I thought the SSCE was enough.
“The SSCE already proves we’ve finished secondary school, so I don’t see why JAMB + post-JAMB is necessary.”
After many people failed the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) was recently the target of criticism.
In response to the public’s concern, JAMB issued an apology and acknowledged that the results of certain test takers were inaccurate.
According to JAMB Registrar Is-haq Oloyede, the board has resolved to contact all candidates affected in 157 out of 882 centers to schedule retakes beginning Friday, May 16th.
Over three hundred and seventy-nine thousand test takers from 157 locations in the southeast and Lagos would repeat the exams.
