On Friday, Muslims in Abia State had a prayer session at the Umuahia municipal Stadium to honour this year’s Eid al-Kabir festival, just as Muslims all around the world.
A huge number of Muslims, dressed in festive apparel and in a jubilant attitude, gathered at approximately nine in the morning for the Sallah prayer.
Alhaji Aminu Lawal, chief imam of Umuahia Central Mosque, spoke on tolerance, unity, and peace in his Sallah address. He urged Muslims to live in accordance with the spirit of the spiritual gathering.
In his prayer for good health to observe this year’s Sallah, the Islamic cleric praised Allah and urged Muslims to live by the example set by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
The nation’s Muslims were urged by the Chief Imam to pray more fervently for the restoration of peace and stability as well as the economy.
In light of the nation’s current economic and security crisis, he emphasised the need of worshippers remembering the value of submission to God and peaceful coexistence while also praying fervently for unity, love, and peace among all tribes in the country.
A brotherhood, according to Lawal, exists among us. “Let us put aside our differences and work together for a peaceful world.”
In addition, he extended his gratitude to Governor Alex Otti for include Muslims in state matters and for supporting Muslim pilgrims on the 2025 Islamic Pilgrimage.
The event was characterised by Sanusi Mohammed, Emeka Ibelegbu Mohammed, Alhaji Abdulkamin Adekunle, and Dahiru Alhassan, among others, as a cornerstone of Islam. In their gratitude to Allah, they urged all people to always seek love, peace, and mutual respect.
At the end of the Eid prayers, the Imam would symbolically kill a ram to honour Ibrahim’s trust and God’s providence in sending a lamb to sacrifice in his place.
