Minna, the capital of Niger State, is under a curfew that runs from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. every day for commercial motorbike operators (Okada riders) and Keke NAPEP drivers.
During a meeting with stakeholders, Governor Mohammed Umar Bago made the announcement, saying that the decision was necessary to address the instability that has led to deaths in the state capital.
“Only those on serious medical attention are exempted from the ban on Okada and Keke NAPEP movements,” he stated, emphasizing that the safety of Nigerlites and state residents is a top priority for his government.
The governor issued a stern warning, labeling anyone in possession of a firearm an armed robber. He also said that anyone attempting to intimidate the Niger State Government by harassing on-duty security personnel will be met with the same severity.
Bago also ordered the security forces to fin people, bar their hair, and jail those with dreadlocks as a form of punishment.
Also, he warned that the full weight of the law would be applied to anyone discovered disobeying the order, so parents should warn their children against it.
“It is going to be 100 per cent enforcement that is fire for fire as enough is enough,” the government insisted under the present mandate.
