Ogun has been awarded for sustainability at IATF 2025 in Algiers

On Wednesday, Ogun State was recognized as the winner of the Most Sustainable Going Green Stand award during the Intra African Trade Fair (IATF) 2025 event that took place in Algiers, Algeria.

The organizers stated that this award acknowledges Ogun State’s outstanding contributions to the IATF 2025, which occurred in Algiers, Algeria from September 4 to September 10.

This remarkable exhibition was organized by the African Export Import Bank (Afreximbank) in collaboration with the African Union Commission and the AfCTA Secretariat, and it was hosted by the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.

The plaque commemorating Ogun State’s achievement was signed by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, the former President of Nigeria and Chairman of the IATF 2025 Advisory Council.

It is worth mentioning that during a high-level panel session titled “Investment Showcase: Unveiling Opportunities from Select African & Caribbean Sub-Sovereigns” at the IATF 2025, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, demonstrated to the international audience that Ogun State is actively dismantling trade barriers through innovative initiatives aimed at attracting investment and enhancing trade.

Reiterating Ogun State’s status as Nigeria’s top investment hub, Governor Abiodun emphasized the crucial role of subnational entities in the success of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

He pointed out that despite Africa’s vast potential, intra-continental trade only represents about 15 percent of total trade, primarily due to inadequate infrastructure, complex regulations, and fragmented value chains.

According to him, Ogun State’s strategy for economic transformation encompasses multi-modal infrastructure development: the Gateway International Cargo Airport, Ijebu-Ode and Kajola Dry Ports, over 1,200 kilometers of upgraded roads, and expanded gas reticulation networks.

He also mentioned that the strategy includes economic development clusters and free trade zones, such as the Remo Economic Zone.
