The PCRC, which stands for the Police Community Relations Committee, claimed on Sunday that retired police officers intend to stage a statewide demonstration in an effort to bring shame on IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
In an interview with Naijatria , Mannir M. Lawal, chairman of the Nigerian Union of Retired Police Officers, announced that union members would stage a demonstration in Abuja on Monday, July 21.
In a statement issued on Sunday, however, Alhaji Ibrahim Olaniyan, the national chairman of the PCRC, asserted that the planned demonstration—a campaign advocating for the rights of retired police personnel—was poorly timed and intended to undermine the accomplishments of the IGP.
This is all part of a larger plot to derail the good work that the I-G and, by implication, President Bola Tinubu’s administration, have been doing. The PCRC greatly values the honesty, self-control, and patriotism of our former law enforcement officers.
We have faith in their ability to voice their concerns in a dignified manner, via proper channels, rather than engaging in politically motivated or opportunistic protests. The people involved can communicate directly with one another, he added.
