Return of Flight Operations to Enugu Airport Announced by Nigerian Government

Operations at Enugu’s Akanu Ibiam International Airport have resumed. The airport has been reopened for flight operations as of Monday, 28th April 2025, according to the Federal Government of Nigeria. This comes after the runway’s emergency repairs were finished.

It was revealed in a statement on Saturday by Mrs. Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

FAAN has notified that due to a sudden and large break in the asphalt surface at a vital stretch of the runway, the runway would be shut down for emergency repairs.

“The work was scheduled to begin on April 22nd and conclude before reopening on May 6th, 2025,” the announcement states.

But the runway rehabilitation is now complete, and the engineers collaborating with FAAN have given the runway the go-ahead for landings and takeoffs.

Thank you for bearing with us and working with us at this time; FAAN values the airport community’s understanding and cooperation. We deeply regret any inconvenience caused and want to reassure the public that all necessary measures were taken to ensure their safety.
