President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been bestowed one of Saint Lucia’s highest honors—the Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia, KCOSL—by the government of Saint Lucia.
In a post on the official X handle of the Office of the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, it was announced that Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has been bestowed the title of Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia, KCOSL, by the Governor General. The government of Saint Lucia is pleased to share this news.
The Governor General of Saint Lucia, following the government’s recommendation, bestowed the honour upon President Tinubu in acknowledgement of his distinguished leadership on the African continent, his dedication to promoting South-South cooperation, and his endeavours to revive cultural, historical, and diplomatic links with the Caribbean.
While on a diplomatic trip of the Americas, Tinubu becomes one of the few African leaders to obtain the esteemed title during his historic official visit to Saint Lucia.
Those who have done outstanding work for Saint Lucia that is recognised on a national or international level are usually the ones awarded the KCOSL, according to the government of the island.
Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to rebrand the biggest democracy in Africa as a cultural and global ambassador, is gaining support in the region, and Tinubu’s accolade is part of that.
Since its inception in 1985, the Order of Saint Lucia has served as the island’s preeminent national honour system, with the Knight Commander rank being the second-highest grade, behind the Grand Cross.
